When not wearing armor, your wool gives you a +1 to your AC and the first five points of damage don't impact you. You are resistant to cold damage, and vulnerable to heat/fire damage.
If you take slashing damage, it doesn't hit you, but your wool becomes partially shorn. After taking 3 hits of slashing damage, you maintain the unarmored AC boost but lose the damage adjustment.
