Prerequisite: The ability to cast 1st levels spells.
As your arcane knowledge grows, you learn to take the techniques of your enemies and apply them to yourself. Any spell that is successfully performed by an ally or enemy on yourself/your allies/or an enemy, can be memorized or added to your spellbook. For the spell to be added you must succeed at an arcana check as a bonus action the turn after the spell was cast. If the spell is applied to you, you have an advantage on the arcana check, but if you are over 30 feet away from the target of the spell you have a disadvantage.
If you have the spell slots for the spell, it can be cast the same as any other spell. However, if you do not have the spell slots, the spell can be applied to a scroll, but you must have blank scrolls in your inventory. You can cast the spell on a scroll a total of 5 times before the scroll turns to dust, at which time you will lose the ability to cast that spell until you decide to copy the spell from someone else again.
You can also copy spells from spellbooks, but only onto a scroll. When a spell is copied to a scroll, you must succeed on an Intelligence (Arcana) check with a DC equal to 8 + the spell’s level. If the check succeeds, the spell is successfully copied. If the check fails, the scroll catches fire and turns to ash.
If the spell is of a higher level than you can normally cast, you must make an ability check using your spellcasting ability to determine whether you cast it successfully. The DC equals 10 + the spell’s level. On a failed check, the spell disappears from the scroll or your spell list with no other effect.
You can copy a spell twice per long rest, or once per short rest if your HP is full. All copied spells follow their designated rules regarding casting time.
The level of the spell on the scroll determines the spell’s saving throw DC and attack bonus, as well as the scroll’s rarity, as shown in the Spell Scroll table.
