Prerequisite: Compulsory feat for a class or class features that allows you to expend spell slots. Must be arcane in nature.
For use in the Dark Sun campaign setting. Is compulsory for any arcane class, or class feature that allows expending arcane spell slots.
When you cast an arcane spell that requires a spell slot, you can elect to "Defile". You can drain the life energy of everything living around you to power your spell, treating the spell as if cast with a spell slot one level higher than you actually spent. When you use this feature, all life within 5ft of you turns withers and dies. Any living organism within the 5ft radius takes 1d4 necrotic damage. You cannot use this feature in an area that has been defiled already.
