You are descended from a master of the bo staff, or have been taught by one directly, and their skills have passed on to you. You gain the following benefits:
- Increase your Dexterity or Strength score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
- While wielding a bo staff with two hands, the weapon has the finesse trait for your attacks with it, and you gain +1 AC.
- On your turn, when you use a bonus action to make a melee attack with the opposite end of the weapon, the weapon’s damage die for this attack increases to 2d4, instead of 1d4.
- You can use a Naginata in place of a bo staff. It has all the same features as a bo staff for you.
- You can install a small blade into one end of your bo staff that can be activated with a switch to turn your bo staff into a Naginata. This can be done by you if you have the necessary knowledge and skill to do so (proficiency in and access to one of the following: Carpenter's tools, Smith's Tools, or Tinker's Tools) provided you pay for the necessary materials, or you can pay a weapon smith, carpenter, or tinkerer that might have the required skill to do so. Talk to your DM about the required costs for either option. Doing so will change the damage type of that end of the weapon into slashing, as well as increase its damage dice to 2d6. Activating the switch can be done using your free object interaction on your turn. (Note: you cannot simply just use an unmodified Glaive or other similar weapon in conjunction with this feat to gain these benefits, as they are not as delicately balanced for both offense and defense as a bo staff. You can have such a weapon modified and gain these benefits only if you pay the previously mentioned costs in time/materials/services.)

Posted Dec 19, 2018Instead of a blade, I would say, have the benefit to this pole be that you can attempt to trip the person with the second attack, but deal only half the damage. You get a number of tries equal to your player level. They have to make an acrobatics check equal to your attack role or something. On fail, they get knocked prone.
