To create a magic item, you can use the Arcane Craftsman feat which allows you to invest time and money into an item's creation. The spellcaster level, time, cost of raw materials, and difficulty check needed to successfully craft a magic item varies according to the rarity of the item. Your DM may specify requirements to craft a certain item, such as the ability to cast Fly to create Winged Boots or proficiency in Artisan's Tools. You determine your Spellcaster Level by adding together all your levels in the Artificer, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Sorcerer, and Wizard classes; half your levels (rounded down) in the Paladin, Ranger, and Warlock classes; and a third of your Fighter or Rogue levels (rounded down) if you have the Eldritch Knight or the Arcane Trickster subclass.
You can also mend a broken or destroyed item for half the raw materials and half the time it would take to craft that item, but only if it is one that you could make. Once you have spent the time and money necessary to craft your item, make an Intelligence (Arcana) check. On a success the item is created as intended. On a failure, the item does not function and the materials and time are wasted. On a failure of 5 or more, the item is created, but, unbeknownst to you, the item is cursed.
You need a fairly quiet, comfortable, and well-lit place in which to work. Any place suitable for preparing spells is suitable for making items. Each day of crafting a magic item requires 8 hours of relatively uninterrupted work. You can only work for 8 hours each day. You cannot rush the process by working longer each day, but the days need not be consecutive, and you can use the rest of your time each day as you see fit.
