Allows players to own a single animal companion.
Animals must be smaller than Large size, have a Challenge Rating lower than 1/2, and have an Intelligence higher than 1. Some animals may not be eligible at the DM's discretion.
Animals require a one-time (Animal Handling) check to tame. Taming attempts may only be done once every 2 days. The Difficulty Check is equal to 10 plus the animal's CR times 40. Example: 10 + (1/8 * 40) = DC 15
Once tamed, animals will attempt to remain within 5 ft of the player at all times unless a trick specifies otherwise.
Players may use an action to communicate a trick to their animal companion. Animal must be able to see or hear the player. You may teach the animal a number of tricks equal to their Intelligence plus your (Animal Handling) modifier. Each trick requires 2 weeks to learn. Animals may only learn one trick at a time.
Example Tricks:
- Stay - Animal stays at the specified location.
- Come - Animal returns to the player.
- Move - Animal moves to a specified location.
- Hide - Animal attempts to use Stealth to hide.
- Fetch <Object> - Animal attempts to grasp an object and return it to the player.
- Find <Object> - Animal attempts to find an object and notify the player.
- Attack - Animal moves within range of a target and uses all available actions to attack a single target.
- Flank - Animal moves to and attacks the rear of a target already in combat with another creature.
- Hold - Animal moves to a target and attempts to grapple them.
- Flee - Animal runs away from all attackers.
