You have been diagnosed with or have Attention Deficit Hyper-Activity Disorder, or ADHD for short. You gain the following benefits and detriments:
Personality: Although your chemical imbalance leads to mild anterograde amnesia, better known as short-term memory loss, your disorder has a positive effect on your personality. Your disposition shows itself as a jovial, almost childish attitude, but also as an introspective, nearly philosophical outlook on life and the nature of things around you.
+ Your Charisma or Wisdom immediately goes up by 1 (to a maximum of 20)
- Your Intelligence goes down by 1 (Minimum of 5) upon taking this feat.
Empathy: Your empathetic disposition and introspective nature has led you to read what's behind the words more than what someone is actually saying, sometimes to the point that someone thinks you're a psionic or a telepath.
+ You gain proficiency in Wisdom (Insight) checks.
++ If you already have it prior to taking this feat, you gain Expertise (Proficiency Mod. is doubled for that skill only).
Presentation: Humanoids with ADHD tend to fluctuate between Inattentive, Hyperactive, or a Combined disposition each and every day.
Roll a d6. You gain the corresponding benefits and detriments for 24 hours. You can reroll these effects after 24 hours has passed or after a long rest.
1-2 : Inattentive. You have not received enough dopamine to be competent throughout the day. You tend to zone out and trek into your own mind scape. You only observe, choosing not (or even outright refusing) to participate in conversation or activity. However, you can choose to observe very closely, and you are in the right state of mind to hyperfocus.
- You have disadvantage on Strength and Intelligence checks and saving throws, as well as Initiative rolls.
+ You have advantage on Wisdom checks and saving throws, and your passive perception is doubled.
3-4: Combined. You receive mixed signals from your body today.
- You have the choice between the collective benefits and/or detriments of hyperactivity and/or inattentiveness. (eg. the benefits of Inattentive and the detriments of Hyperactive)
5-6: Hyperactive. You receive a hearty helping of Serotonin and Adrenaline today. You have low situational awareness and a feeling of restlessness that prevents you from truly relaxing, constantly fidgeting and squirming in your seat. But you can use that restlessness to your advantage.
- You have disadvantage on Intelligence checks and saving throws, and you have disadvantage on rolls against being frightened or charmed.
+ You have advantage on Charisma (Intimidation) checks, Strength checks and saving throws, and your base walking speed and jumping height/distance is increased by 5 ft.
Optional Features: The Following features can be applied if the player so chooses. These options usually act similar to Bonds and Flaws, along with Alignment changes, proficiency in Tools or Weapons, and other features as described.
Oppositional Defiant Disorder: It is very common for humanoids with ADHD to receive a joint diagnosis of Oppositional Defiant Disorder, especially if they are diagnosed in childhood. Whether it was inconsistent or harsh punishment by an authority figure, irregular emotions, or even just how you were born, ODD gives you an overall negative opinion on leadership and rules. You heavily dislike the words "no" and "need", and you hate having your or someone else's creativity hindered by a stringent or provincial code of conduct or punishment. More often than not, Spite and Vindication are your biggest motivators, especially if you want to prove an idea, moral guide, or a specific person wrong.
- If you are Lawful, your alignment shifts towards Neutral.
- If you are Neutral, your alignment shifts towards Chaotic.
Harnessing Hyperfixation: Humanoids with ADHD commonly experience a phenomenon called Hyperfocus or Hyperfixation, when they enter a state of focus that is unrivaled to many of their peers, usually due to a lack of Dopamine which helps stable humanoids shift from one task to the other. You, however, are a special case, where you harnessed this focus towards a special skill or trade that had a positive impact on your livelihood and lifestyle.
You have three choices with this feature. You cannot change this choice later on, nor can you chose multiple options:
- You learn any 1 cantrip from the Wizard Spell List, using Intelligence in your Spell Attack Modifier.
- You gain proficiency in a Kit or Tool set as described in Xanathar's Guide to Everything
- You gain proficiency in a Martial weapon of your choice.
