Posted Mar 28, 2019So here's a question im building a strictly grappling character barb that dips into bard and he has expertise in athletics so his proficiency bonus is already doubled for athletics check how would that work with this ability below? because its not exactly the same because this is for strictly grappling. (also right now its a +17 for athletics, with max proficiency)

Posted Mar 29, 2019The intention is that this is functionally the same as having expertise in Athletics checks made to grapple, which wouldn't stack. It's up to your DM, really. If it were at my table, I'd say it doesn't stack so you could use that bardic Expertise on a different skill. +17 Athletics to grapple with Advantage from rage is a bit much, but if your DM is good with it, then by all means!

Posted Aug 18, 2025Adding on to this point, what happens if the character just doesn't have proficiency in athletics? 0*2?
