You bear upon your body the mark of the blessing bestowed upon you by an Ancient (or possibly older) Copper Dragon. You have survived it's trials, done it a great service, or otherwise earned this boon, which can only be granted willingly by the most ancient of dragons and can never be taken by force. You may grow copper dragon scales, or, if you already have scales, may find some of yours replaced by those of a copper color, tinged with green, to reflect the scales of the great dragon. Alternatively, you may grow jutting brow plates, one of your eyes might turn to a turquoise color where the whites once were, or you might grow frills along your jaw that trace from just behind the ears down towards your chin. Whatever form the blessing takes on your body, it is a noticeable mark of the great copper dragon who bestowed its blessings upon you, and should be worn with pride, lest you disappoint the bestower of such a unique and powerful gift.
While you bear the Blessing of the Copper Wyrm, you gain the following benefits:
- You gain the Slowing Breath breath weapon ability, which you can use as an action, or as a replacement for an attack when you take the Attack action. See Slowing Breath below.
- You learn the hideous laughter spell. You can cast the spell once without expending a spell slot. Once you cast the spell in this way, you can’t cast the spell in this way again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast this spell using spell slots you have of the appropriate level. The spells’ spellcasting ability is Charisma.
- You gain proficiency in a musical instrument of your choice.
Slowing Breath. You exhale gas in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must succeed on a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature can't use reactions, its speed is halved, and it can't make more than one attack on its turn. In addition, the creature can use either an action or a bonus action on its turn, but not both. These effects last for 1 minute. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself with a successful save. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus.
You can use this ability once per long rest. However, if you possess another Breath Weapon, such as the Breath Weapon ability of the Dragonborn race, you can also use this breath weapon instead of one of your other breath weapon options when expending a use of your Breath Weapon ability.
