You form a symbiotic bond with a minor elemental forged from earth and fire, commonly known as a Metal Elemental, Ore Sprite, or Cobold. Native to the Fountains of Creation, and most commonly found bound to service in the forges of The Furnace on the Plane of Earth, this one has somehow come to serve you, granting you the following traits:
- You gain proficiency in smith's tools and glassblower's tools. In addition, you gain proficiency in the use of swords, as well as in other melee weapons composed primarily of metal. This does not include weapons with wooden handles such as axes or warhammers. The DM may decide that some axes, clubs, flails, maces, warhammers, or other melee weapons may qualify based on their description.
- Investiture of Iron: You may use an action to imbue a non-magical, metal, melee weapon, such as a sword, with a small investiture of your elemental’s power. You must maintain concentration on this ability for the duration as if you were concentrating on a spell. While in effect, the weapon gains a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls you make with it, and is considered magical so long as it is wielded by you. The effect ends immediately if you are not in physical contact with the weapon, or if you lose concentration, fall unconscious, or die.
-
Innate Spellcasting: You learn one of the following cantrips: magic stone, mending, resistance, true strike. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this cantrip.
You learn one of the following spells and may cast it at its lowest level once for free, regaining the use when you complete a long rest: bane, heroism, hunter's mark, shield of faith. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this spell. You may swap this spell for a different one from the same list when you gain a level.
If you select the spell magic stone, you may only cast the spell on metal objects or rocks with a high metal component, such as ball bearings, coins, or shards of meteorite.
If you select the spell mending, you may only cast the spell upon metal objects, or you may use metal as a material with which to affect repairs, such as in kintsugi.
If you select the spell shield of faith, the protection is provided by your elemental spirit, and the shimmering field appears to shine with a gold, silver, or copper sheen. When you cast this spell on yourself, the spell has a duration of up to 1 hour. When you cast the spell on another creature, the spell ends if the target creature is further than 60 feet from you.

Posted Sep 19, 2021I have endeavoured to make this feat as user-friendly as possible, and have tried to keep it balanced when compared to official feats. I welcome all constructive criticism and feedback. If you find that a particular point is not clear, or if feel that the balance is off, I hope and ask that you will leave a comment. Nothing excites me more than knowing that something I have designed is being play-tested.
Update note: As of V.5, the feat no longer requires a prerequisite. This may effect the way the feat balances with official feats or with others in this series.
It is part of a collection of feats along the same vein, and I hope that if you enjoy this feat, you will explore the others in the collection. Search Biscuits_of_Rowan for more examples.
