By authority of the Hedron and in accordance with your divine appointment you can issue a holy edict that will be upheld by the powers that be. These are but a few examples of the kinds of edicts you may decree:
- Declare a day of fasting, mourning, or celebration (no ordinary work may be performed, the gates of the city remain closed).
- Call for an assembly in the town square.
- Call a gathering to prayer.
- Issue a stay of execution.
- Grant a full pardon (for lesser crimes).
- Request a tithe offering from a noble or wealthy merchant (1d6 coins of a random denomination).
- Confiscate an item valued at no more than 1 gold piece.
- Call upon the assistance of no more than two guards for conducting official business within the city (running errands, bringing people in for questioning, etc.)
- Enter the home of a commoner to conduct an investigation.
- Detain a commoner for questioning.
- Have a commoner arrested for heresy and imprisoned or placed in the stockade for up to 24 hours.
- Issue a lawful command to a commoner that may be reasonably obeyed.
- Have a commoner brought in for questioning.
- Perform rites of marriage and funerary rites.
Just how much authority a Speaker will have in a given situation will depend on their standing within a community, although the authority of Speakers is recognized in almost all human cities. At the very least lip service will be offered to a holy edict by those in power (even if somewhat begrudgingly).
