You have devoted yourself to the discipline of dueling, this has made you formidable opponent in one-on-one combat. But your sense of honor and fair-play prevent you from taking full advantage of your training if the fight is unfair in your favor.
- When making a melee weapon attack with a finesse weapon, with which you are proficient, against a humanoid creature, you gain +2 to hit.
- When you are wielding a finesse weapon with which you are proficient and another creature hits you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to add your proficiency bonus to your AC for that attack, potentially causing the attack to miss you.
- If the attacker is a humanoid creature wielding a simple or martial weapon and you cause the attack to miss in this way, you may make a melee weapon attack against the creature with your finesse weapon.
- When making a melee weapon attack against a humanoid creature wielding a simple or martial weapon, and there are no other creatures threatening you or the target:
- You cannot take the Disengage action or benefit from Fancy Footwork.
- You gain Advantage on opportunity attacks against the creature until the start of your next turn.
- When making a melee weapon attack against a humanoid creature wielding a simple or martial weapon that is threatened by an ally:
- Make a WIS savings throw (DC 13), on a failed save you have Disadvantage on the attack.
- You take -2 to hit and -2 to damage on the attack.
- You cannot use the Sneak Attack class feature.
This feat was specifically designed for a player who wants to play a duelist Rogue (Swashbuckler) who seeks a fair fight rather than backstabbing opponents (e.g. Inigo Montoya). Therefore this feat is centered on dueling other humanoids (who are armed) and thus is not very useful for other character types.
Obviously there is still a lot of details that would need to be negotiated between the PC and DM to adhere to the spirit of the feat. I am always open feedback/suggestions to further improve upon or modify the feat to make it more general in use and/or less exploitable by other character types.
