Once taught how by a willing teacher, you are able to develop a bond with a Griffon for purposes of treating it as a mount. The knowledge you gain includes lore on griffons, their habits, likes and dislikes. It also includes specific knowledge of how to put a riding harness together, how to secure it on the griffon so that it is not uncomfortable to the beast and how to secure yourself to the harness to avoid terminal mishaps.
You must meet with a non-hostile griffon and spend time in its company. On average, it will take a number of days equal to 10 minus your Wisdom modifier to befriend a griffon and gain its trust. The DM can reduce this time requirement according to circumstances and their discretion (e.g. if you are assisted in this task by someone whom the griffon already trusts, if the griffon had already been previously trained, if the griffon is more intelligent than average etc).
Once you do this, the griffon can be considered to be a mount trained to accept a rider (see Basic Rules Chapter 9: Controlling a Mount). In addition, at your DM's discretion, gaining this feat may allow you to specify "Griffon" as the form of the steed you bond as part of a Find Steed spell.
