You fought a battle with a powerful demonic being and won, but at a terrible cost. While in combat, it touched you with its blood-like writhing form, leaving a strange and purple scar-like mark across your skin. The demon mark can be both a curse and a blessing. It's presence greatly amplifies some of your existing physical qualities, but the price exacted is that the more you use its strength, the more it consumes you, spreading across your body as it does so. In the end, it shall rip apart your very soul and kill you.
While affected by the demon mark, your Strength score increases by 4 to a maximum of 24. You also gain expertise in the Athletics skill and proficiency in Strength saving throws.
When making a Strength-based attack, saving throw or check, you can choose to make it at advantage. After doing so, regardless of whether you succeeded or failed, roll a hit die and subtract that many hit points from your hit point maximum, as well as your current hit points. When your maximum hit points reaches 0 in this way, you instantly die in agonising pain as the mark finally consumes your essence, shredding apart your soul. A Wish spell must be cast first to reconnect the fragments of your soul before you can be resurrected by any means if you die in this way.
Nothing can cure the demon mark's curse short of direct divine intervention from a deity whose domain includes life in their portfolio. Upon being cured, you lose this feature and all of its effects.
