only applicable for Fighters with Fighting Style "Protection"

requires a Good or Chaotic alignment

When a creature you can see attacks a target other than you that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll. This can be done without wielding a shield when done by throwing yourself between the creature and the attacker. The attack is then played as if the protecting character was attacked. The character may change its position thus provoking opportunity attacks doing this at the DM's discretion.

This feat can be taken voluntarily by the player if they choose it appropriate for their character.
