You recognize spells you yourself know, and can oppose them spell for spell.
You recognize any spell being cast that you know. If a creature casts a known spell that is traceable from its point of origin (I.E. an eldritch blast or a disintegration ray) you may use your reaction to expend a spell slot to cast the same spell back at the enemy caster, deciding the spell level during your reaction.
If the spell is cast at a higher level by either you or the hostile creature, the lower-level spell automatically fails. If the spell levels are the same level, they collide in mid-air. Both casters roll a d20 and add their spellcasting ability modifier. The higher roll pushes through the other spell, dispelling it and hitting the opposing spellcaster as though it were a successful spell.
On an equal roll, the spells remain locked in a power struggle, requiring an action to maintain from both spellcasters. The spellcasters reroll each subsequent turn until a victor is decided.
