You learn to create more from the bones of your fallen foes. You can spend an hour to scavenge the corpse of a dead creature and use any availble bodyparts to create a shield or any simple or martial melee/thrown weapon you have proficiency with as long as the corpse has enough materials for such a weapon and you have the necessary tools to create it.
Depending on the creature slain the bodyparts might contain certain magical effects such as the skullcap of a frost giant when turned into a shield might offer the wielder resistance to cold damage or a greatclub made from the femur of a blue dragon might deal additional lighting damage.
These shields and weapons are still considered weaker and more fragile than steel and so whenever you roll a natural 1 on an attack roll with a bone weapon it breaks and loses any magical effects it had even if the mending spell was cast to fix it. Shields break when you have been hit 3 times by a critical hit this counter can be reset by mending.
