You have pushed yourself to the limits of where your magic can take you, and then you took another step.
You gain +1 to either your Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma.
When you attempt to cast a spell of 6th level, or lower, but you are out of spell slots of the required level, you may instead take levels of exhaustion equal to the level of the spell you wish to cast. The spell takes effect first, and then your character receives the levels of exhaustion. You can only cast a spell which would put you at 6, or fewer levels of exhaustion. If you reach 6 levels of exhaustion through the use of this feature roll two d20s. If one of them rolls a natural 20 you are instead at level 5 exhaustion. If both roll a natural 20 you now have zero levels of exhaustion. And if neither do, you die as is normal for 6th level exhaustion, except your soul and body unravel into magical energy, and you can only be resurrected by use of a wish spell. The only thing which may affect the roll of these dice is a luck point, used to replace one of the rolls.
*Warlocks may use this feature to cast thier spells at a level lower than, or equal to thier pact slots, up to 6th, even if they still have available pact spell slots. For example; they may want to cast shield at first level instead of expending a 5th level pact slot in an encounter.*

Posted Feb 22, 2022It should be noted In my games, I house rule; a creature loses all its levels of exhuastion on a long rest, as I run some intensive skill challenges where players often pick up levels of exhuastion.
