Blind Adept Image
Prerequisite: Requires a Wisdom score of 13 or higher.

Due to a lifetime of blindness, you have become adept at navigating the world without sight. A Blind Adept may use smell to recognize individuals, echolocation to move without hindrance, and may even be able to perceive the slight variations in air currents around them to sense the presence of objects. These talents may only require a subtle focus on the Blind Adept's part, or a more overt display of the use of their senses. Work with your DM to decide how your Blind Adept perceives the world. They gain the following benefits:

  • You permanently have the Blinded condition, however you do not suffer the Disadvantage on attack rolls or attack rolls against you that is normally associated with this condition.
  • If you are deafened, attack rolls against you have advantage and your attack rolls have disadvantage.
  • You have Advantage on Ability Checks that rely on sound, smell, taste, or touch.
  • You are Vulnerable to Thunder damage.
  • You gain proficiency in one skill of your choice between: Insight, Perception, Survival, Medicine, or Investigation.
  • Blindsight: As an Action you push your other senses beyond their normal limits. You gain Blindsight out to a range of 30 feet for one round. By maintaining Concentration, you can use an Action to increase the range of this ability by 30 feet up to a number of rounds equal to your Wisdom Modifier. This ability recharges on a Long Rest.

*Special Note: This feat demands collaboration between the DM and Player in terms of how your character perceives the world throughout gameplay. A DM may ask a player to make an argument as to how they might perceive a painting, a book, or something else that would normally require sight; and then allow them to make a Wisdom (Perception) roll to see if they can perceive it. Or the DM may ask for a Wisdom (Perception) check to find a hidden item, then work with you to create a justification for how you perceive it after it's determined if the roll is a success or failure. Continue to work with your DM to make sure that you're getting the most out of your character during gameplay.
