Thanks to countless hours of training with nets, be it for sport or sustenance, you gain the following benefits:
- You no longer have disadvantage on net attacks made at long range up to 30 feet.
- Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn’t impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls.
- When you use the Attack action and attack with a net, you can use a bonus action to make a weapon attack with a hand melee weapon you are holding.
- The escape DC for nets that you throw is 8+ your Dexterity modifier + your Proficiency bonus.

I’m confused, why would you have disadvantage on a net attack from within 5 feet? The range is 5/15, so within 5 ft you wouldn’t have disadvantage, right?
All thrown and ranged attacks are at disadvantage within 5 feet. The range just means that after 5 feet it's at disadvantage if you have something like the crossbow expert feat.
Doesn’t that mean that (unless you have a home brew feat like this) you always have disadvantage when using a net?
