Heart Of The Beast Image

Having released the soul of the beast, you feel the heart of its spirit, still pulsing within its remains. To honor the creature, you spend some amount of time fashioning the remains into an object of your choosing. The item you create, must require attunement.

Abilities

While this object is equipped and attuned, you gain the following abilities:

Roar Like the Beast (Bonus Action)

As a bonus action you channel your force of presence, and roar like the beast. The sound travels up to 60 feet in front of you (cone). Any creature in the area-of-effect must make a Wisdom (WIS) saving throw, otherwise they're convinced you sound exactly like the beast whose soul you released. On failure, they run around in a circle screaming wildly for a moment and then abruptly stop. They look at you with a look of confusion on their face, wondering why they just did that. This does not provoke an attack of opportunity and the creature is no more distracted than it was before. It just looked pretty silly for a moment.

Goading Presence (Spell)

When you hit a creature with a successful weapon attack, you can attempt to goad the target into attacking you. You add 1d6 to the attack’s damage roll, and the target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the target has disadvantage on all attack rolls against targets other than you until the end of your next turn.

At Higher Levels. You may target one additional creature that you have hit with a successful weapon attack at 4th level (2 targets total), and again at 8th level (3 targets total).

Once you use this ability, you can't do so again until you've finished a short or long rest.

Goading Presence is a homebrew spell, also created by myself.

Item Creation

The details on what was slain and what you would turn the remains into are vague on purpose. Work with your DM to determine how long you would spend working on this and what you would turn it into. For example, you could turn:

  • the bones into a staff or an arcane focus;
  • the teeth into a necklace or a single one as an earring;
  • the pelt into a cloak.

These are just examples, so please don't limit yourself to them. Basically, there are no hard rules around creating an item, except that it should be created from the remains of the beast and what it is should be worked out with your DM.

Addendum

Item Creation

I would discourage turning it into a weapon, simply because a bone blade would have to be further enchanted to not break. Then, does it give necrotic damage or is it just slashing damage? Or do you continue to suspend your belief, because you're already dealing with a 3'2" being that's throwing fireballs everywhere yelling "GO GO Ninja Flameball!" DMs discretion.

Notes

This started a "flavor-only" feat that was created to get my kids into breathing life into their characters. "Roar Like a Beast" provided an option to do something other than just attack in combat, which made them think about other things they could do (inside and out of combat). Since characters don't have many options at level 1, this is a perfect opportunity for them to have this. It also gives them a chance to create a story about how their character got the item that grants them this feat, before they started out on their adventure.

The addition of the spell has turned this into something more than just flavor, especially since they're getting a spell at level 1. That being said, as-is I don't believe that it unbalances anything.

Thoughts

I had wanted to add spells to the feat that were unlocked at each level, however, the current system doesn't allow that. Instead, you have to create multiple items that have the spells scaled for each level. This is unfortunate, but what can you do. The additional spells I had in mind were:

Spell Level
Blindness/Deafness 4
Fear 8

The spells would be leveled this way for two reasons:

  1. You don't get a whole lot at level 4 or 8, so make it interesting;
  2. This feat was originally made for a barbarian, so I didn't want them dipping into additional skills too early (especially because this was designed for a child);

 Suggestions and critiques are welcomed. This will continue to be a work-in-progress.

This feat was created specifically to work with the Bearskin Cloak of Softness, which was also created by me (which is not currently published).
