Prerequisite: Race must be Mastiff (Warrior Sidekick)

Third of three feats designed to work together for a Mastiff Warrior sidekick. See also Mastiff (Warrior Sidekick) Race and Subclass and Bite to Grapple and Bite to Seize feats.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: reach 5 ft., one target. If, and only IF, an attack lands successfully, the Mastiff may attempt to Disrupt the spell the target is casting. The target makes any saving throw they choose, except CON, versus the Mastiff's STR(Athletics) skill check. Failure means the spell the target is casting is interrupted, as in Counterspell.

In addition, every successful melee attack now imposes DISADV on all Concentration saving throws.

This is a variant of the Mage Slayer feat, particularly the first two points. The last point of that feat are found in other capabilities. This feat is adapted to fit better with the abilities of a dog-based creature, and to round out the Sidekick's usefulness as an anti-caster element of the story.

The reason the save possibilities are so very broad is because this ability roughly equates to the third-level spell Counterspell; you may have heard of it, it's kind of a big deal. Only here, it manifests without the need to expend a spell slot to make it happen; it could be "cast" every round ad infinitum (by a creature with a 3 Intelligence, no less). This being the case, the broadest possible set of circumstances for avoiding the effect of the attack was sought, to act as a counterbalancing counterweight to the wannabe Counterspell.
