You have been cursed with eternal life, either through godly favor or punishment.
When you fail your last death saving throw your body dies but your soul cannot escape and can't go to the next life. Instead, your body slowly heals any injury you endured over the course of 4 hours, after which your soul returns you your body and you awaken again. After waking up you gain 1 level of exhaustion and long for food and drink.
You gain exhaustion from not eating and drinking just like anything else, but when you reach the 6th level of exhaustion, instead of dying, you enter a catatonic state where you can do nothing but sleep. This effect ends after 10 days of rest, or if someone casts Greater Restoration. After you wake up you lose 2 levels of exhaustion.
