Vampires require blood to survive, its their sole dietary requirement and it staves off blood frenzy.
Regular food and drink doesn't sustain a vampire. If these are consumed, after a d100 number of minutes has passed they will vomit it back up along with a handful of blood. And if enough blood is lost then the vampire will enter a blood frenzy.
Every hour in real time, every significant time skip and every round of combat where the vampire is wounded, the DM will roll a d20 with the starting check to pass being 1. A pass means you stave off blood frenzy, a failure will cause you enter a blood frenzy. Every d20 check that is done the difficulty increases by 1, but difficulty will be reset to 1 when blood is consumed.
