Smaug is very nice. I had a snake named Smaug once.
Beowulf is wonderful. I have read two different versions of it and I recommend Seamus Heaney's version. I have the family trees of the Danish, Swedish, and Geatish dynasties in the book.
N. D. Wilson wrote a book called Boys of Blur that was really good. It was a sort of parody of Beowulf but instead of vikings, it was set in the Southern swamps of Georgia. It paralleled the viking culture to Georgian football culture really well. The mead hall was a football stadium, the viking warriors were football players, the ring rewards were football rings, etc.
Correction: The story is set in the Everglades in Florida, not Georgia.

You should. He is a great author. That book also has a cool, poetic magic system. In it, all living things have a measure of magic inside of them. When something dies and decays, its magic is absorbed into the earth. The muddy swamps of Florida is really just layers upon layers of decaying magic. Mud is magic.

You can talk about books here in the library. In your first comment make sure to complement the library's resident kitty, Smaug

I found this book trailer that doesn't mention the connections to Beowulf, but it does do a good job of giving a feel for the book.
