Rules:
1. No PVP (this includes being stolen from) without permission from BOTH people playing the characters. If that is agreed to, then PVP may occur outside but no such roughhousing may happen inside the premises. 2. If you wish to run an encounter or something similar, let's talk about it over in PMs and I will see if you can run it. 2a. While running an Encounter, the DM has the right to ask for stats beforehand and veto power over HB. 2b. (Unless stated otherwise by the DM) characters are automatically resurrected after an encounter. How does this happen? Corbenic must be on the fritz. 3. 'Yes and' with people. Although the SCP Foundation enjoys playing fast and loose with Canon, try to accept parts of Canon they put down. If two things disagree (ex. 682 is the Devil from the Bible vs. 682 is the child of the Scarlet King), then just accept both and say that in one person's universe, it is one way, and in another a different way. The Multiverse is remarkably large. 4. Although the occasional low-level swear (like the s#@t or c$%p) is allowed, please do not use overly vulgar language (such as repeated swearing or the f%&@ word or whatnot). 5. Respect people! 6. If an argument gets out of hand, there is always PMs to talk about it so it doesn't clutter up the main thread. If it still isn't resolved, a mod may step in 7. Don’t threaten each other. If a player is not willing to follow through with an action that includes his/her character then please respect their wishes. 8. Please keep things appropriate and go easy on any gorey details or any brutal actions. This also includes 18+ scenes or content (Fade to black/suggestive scenarios). We are not aware of the age of thread participants or how comfortable they are with it, so please keep things down and be mindful of these kinds of things. If you and other players would like to do things like this, please take it to a PM 9. Please go easy on quote chains for ease of mobile users. If someone has very long chains, please let them know in a respectful way.
General Lore:
The SCP (Secure, Contain, Protect) Foundation is a fictional organization within an expansive collaborative universe created by the SCP community. The SCP Foundation is dedicated to containing and studying anomalous objects, entities, and phenomena that defy natural laws and pose threats to humanity. These anomalies, known as SCPs, range from sentient creatures and mysterious artifacts to reality-bending events and locations.
Here’s a general overview of SCP lore:
The Foundation
The SCP Foundation operates in secrecy, with a network of facilities worldwide. It is funded by various governments but remains independent to avoid political interference. The Foundation's primary goal is to maintain normalcy by keeping anomalous entities hidden from the public, ensuring that society continues unaware of the dangerous and bizarre nature of these phenomena.
Secure, Contain, Protect
Secure: The Foundation’s first mission is to secure anomalies in a safe and controlled environment. Special teams, known as Mobile Task Forces (MTFs), are deployed to capture or neutralize these anomalies in the field.
Contain: Once secured, anomalies are contained in specialized facilities designed to prevent them from escaping or affecting the outside world. The Foundation creates detailed containment procedures for each SCP, outlining how to manage its unique characteristics.
Protect: The Foundation protects humanity from the dangers posed by these anomalies, as well as protecting the anomalies themselves from falling into the hands of individuals or organizations who would misuse them.
The SCPs
Each SCP is documented in the form of a case file with a number designation (e.g., SCP-173, SCP-049). These files provide descriptions of the anomaly, its containment procedures, and often field reports or experimental logs detailing interactions with the SCP. The nature of SCPs can range from relatively harmless to extremely dangerous or reality-threatening.
The Anomalies
The anomalies vary in nature and include, but are not limited to:
Objects: Artifacts with strange properties, like SCP-173, a statue that moves and attacks when not observed, or SCP-914, a machine that refines objects in unpredictable ways.
Entities: Sentient beings with unusual abilities or characteristics, such as SCP-682, a highly intelligent and nigh-indestructible reptile that harbors extreme hatred for all life.
Phenomena: Supernatural or unexplained events, locations, or conditions. Examples include SCP-3008, an infinite IKEA store where people become trapped, or SCP-055, an entity that erases itself from memory.
Classifications
SCPs are classified based on the difficulty of containment, not their threat level. Common classifications include:
Safe: Easily contained; doesn’t pose a significant threat under normal circumstances.
Euclid: Requires more extensive containment and observation; its behavior may be unpredictable.
Keter: Extremely difficult to contain; poses a serious threat to humanity or reality.
There are also other classifications such as Thaumiel (used to contain other SCPs) and Apollyon (essentially uncontainable, world-ending entities).
Ethics and Research
The Foundation operates under strict ethical guidelines, though these are often bent in pursuit of knowledge or containment. Research on SCPs is conducted to understand their nature and to develop new containment measures. Sometimes, this research leads to morally questionable actions, as personnel are willing to take extreme measures to protect humanity.
The World
In the SCP universe, the Foundation is not alone in dealing with anomalies. There are various other groups with different agendas, such as:
The Chaos Insurgency: A rogue faction that opposes the Foundation and seeks to use SCPs for its own ends.
The Global Occult Coalition (GOC): A coalition of governments focused on destroying anomalies rather than containing them.
The Serpent’s Hand: A group that believes anomalies should be free, viewing the Foundation as oppressive.
Roles in the Site:
1. Research Staff
Senior Researchers: Senior Researchers oversee research on SCPs, devising experiments, studying anomalous properties, and ensuring ethical guidelines are followed. They typically have extensive experience and are responsible for mentoring junior staff.
Junior Researchers: Junior Researchers assist with research under the supervision of Senior Researchers. They often handle routine tasks, data analysis, and smaller experiments.
2. Mobile Task Forces (MTFs)
MTFs are specialized teams deployed to handle specific SCP-related threats, containment breaches, or investigations. Each MTF has a designated specialty, such as capturing anomalous entities, conducting covert operations, or neutralizing threats.
3. Containment Specialists
Containment Specialists are experts in designing, implementing, and maintaining the containment procedures for SCPs. They work closely with engineers and researchers to ensure that anomalous objects or entities are securely contained.
4. Security Personnel
Security Personnel are responsible for ensuring the physical safety of Foundation sites, personnel, and contained SCPs. They respond to containment breaches, guard high-security areas, and manage external threats.
5. Medical Staff
Medical Staff, including doctors and medics, provide healthcare to Foundation personnel, treat injuries from containment breaches, and sometimes study the medical effects of SCPs on humans.
6. Class-D Personnel
Class-D personnel are expendable individuals, often convicted criminals, used in high-risk experiments involving SCPs. Their primary role is to interact with dangerous anomalies when Foundation personnel cannot.
7. Ethics Committee
The Ethics Committee ensures that the Foundation’s actions, especially during research and containment, adhere to ethical standards. They evaluate moral dilemmas and oversee cases where ethics may be compromised.
8. Intelligence and Espionage Staff
This group handles information security, monitors external threats, and conducts espionage to ensure that the existence of SCPs and the Foundation remains hidden from the public.
A teenager, around 16 or so, runs out of a cell labeled SCP-0, though that has been scratched out and replaced with Nexus. He has a phone to his ear and seems to be in a panic. “Just tell Atanti-ql-Paneu that I’ll be there soon. Don’t shoot them, it would just make things worse. What do you mean Peanut is out. Gah. How were you people hired?” He hangs up and
He approaches. "Exactly what the hell are you doing out? This is not one of the scheduled times. Being able to leave your cell is a privilege, not a right. It can be taken away."
