Well, I don't know of anything better, but you can go under inventory find the item on the list hit custom and add notes to the item. If you want you could even rename it. I have an owlin artificer, who tinkers her crossbow bolts her infused light crossbow is called trusty the infused crossbow. She has a set of tinkered bolts on with light, one that sings "what to do with a drunk'n sailor.. one that smells like cooked steak and mushrooms.They are simply typed in under notes

When I use infusion it shows the effect on the items description. Does "Magical Tinkering" work the same way or do I need to make a custom item.
There is not an option like infusions for Magical Tinkering in DDB. As was mentioned above you can select the item in question in your inventory, then customize, then add the MT effect in the notes. You can also change the name to reflect the effect.
I don't really see a prompt or anything that lets me add any effects to items.

When you use magical tinkering think of it as a cantrip. Flavor the rest as you see fit
