i was thinking about letting asking my dm if i could use the battle ready perk of the battle smith on my artillerist would that be over powered? (my dm is bad about just letting us have anything we ask for which has lead to some really overpowered stuff happening)
It's kinda OP, in the sense that it takes one of the best Battle Smith features and gives it to another subclass. However, an Artillerist would usually want to spend their actions casting spells, which means they're usually not bothering with weapon attacks. I suppose there's some risk of using Booming Blade / Green Flame Blade to combo Int-based weapon attacks with Arcane Firearm effects (probably on a staff, though, or otherwise preventing the use of a shield).

On my Artillerist, that is what I do. I use an All-Purpose Tool to gain the Shillelagh cantrip, imbue a rod (effectively a club) as a Shillelagh for the 1d8+INT damage, and just cast Booming Blade / Green-Flame Blade with Arcane Firearm effects.

If you're trading Battle Ready for Arcane Firearm, shouldn't be an issue. The artificer was tested with Extra Attack as a base class feature and frankly was a better class for it when all artificers could wield weapons with some degree of efficacy.
Stacking Battle Ready with Arcane Firearm? As the others have said, kinda stealing the Battlesmith's thunder there, and it's definitely power creep. Do I think it'd break the game for you? No. Artificers don't tend to be fantastic weapon attackers anyways even with Battle Ready, and there's so many ways to cheeseburger blasde cantrips that nothing you do with an extra swipe and autogishing is really gonna stack up to the worst crap. Should be fine, if you're prepared to kinda scupper the Battlesmith for your table.
You can even add arcane firearm damage to one of your Shillelagh damage rolls. At level 5 one roll is doing 2d8 + int bludgeoning and 2d8 thunder. Add in your turret and it can be an additional 2d8. Starts adding up fast. And that's why i love the artillerist.

You cannot do that by RAW. Arcane Firearm only adds damage to spell damage rolls. Shillelagh only has regular melee attack damage rolls.
If your use a rod as your Arcane Firearm, and treat it as a club for Shillelagh, and cast GFB or BB with it, then in theory you should be able to use the Arcane Firearm damage with the spell damage from GFB / BB.

Indeed. (Well, it's not quite RAW that a 'rod' counts as a 'club,' but that's a common ruling in line with "'staff' is 'quarterstaff'" which is RAW, etc.) The Arcane Firearm damage only adds to the cantrip/spell damage, not to the Shillelagh itself.

What would be the purpose for this?
It does not affect your Force Ballistica as it already uses your Int score ( "a ranged spell attack")
Arcane Firearm is for spells so Int score.
Melee? I do like adding the artillerist to the melee characters (barbarians) but does the Artillerist play best on the front line or backline?
To be fair and honest, if you are looking for a PewPew with heavy armour and using your Int score for hits and damage, just go Armorer.

For fun, probably. "Just go armorer" doesn't really help if the OP likes artillerist a lot but wishes they could use weapons.
Oh don't get me wrong. Fun is always on top of my games and to be honest, rules for class feature swapping are in the DMG (pg287) as well as TCtE "Changing Your Subclass". I was just asking with a min/max mindset why the OP would think this is overpowered?
I do stand corrected, however. When I mentioned Armorer I was referring to the Subclass feature, Arcane Armor as an option instead of Battle ready
It's not overpowered as long as you dont try to use Battle Ready and Arcane Firearm at the same time.
Honestly the fact that this isn't a RAW option is kind of an oversite imo, so you can have an artillerist that uses firearms instead of a wand. The firearm proficiency for artificers fits perfectly with artillerist lore wise, but mechanically they want you to use a wand and pretend its a firearm.
