I started creating a new character, selected race (Rock Gnome), when it comes time to select class artificer is not available. But if I search for Artificer I can find it and view all the class details. Is it in a source that I don't own?

Artificer is in Eberron: Rising from the Last War.

You have to have purchased either the entire Eberron book, or the class option a la carte.

I had a similar question, but I only see subclasses for purchase. If I purchase a subclass do I get the Artificer class?

Yeah, if you purchase the subclass, you get the Base Artificer as well.
