For about a year now I've been back playing DnD, after a hiatus of nearly 20 years.
Back then it was mostly theatre of the mind for our group, but now, with DnD Beyond, Ipads, etc, and some more creativity, it's so much better than I remember. And we do love 5E. We've got the old group back together and now I also wanted to go into the miniatures and such. I've not had much experience, basically none.. but so many great crafters on youtube inspired me to give it a go. But it's still a first go on the different things involved so rough around the edges.. good enough for our table though, my players get a kick out of it.
I've used foam, clay, wood, flocking materials, anything that was cheap to get or just lying around anyway, to make all sorts of modular pieces, be it terrain or scatter stuff, and started painting mini's, and boy that's not as easy as it looks on youtube either. :)
For anyone interested, I made a few photos of a little example diorama with some small pieces I have made so far;
Nice work! You're going to looking at stuff in a different way from now on too. Pill containers, soda cans, appliance packing, whatever. You'll see a wizard's tower, mysterious ruins, something that crashed from the aether....

And yes, for sure, that process is well underway haha. I've already converted a walk-in closet into a storage room for all those things, and much more. :)
