Long story short, I am brewing up a campaign for my brother that I don't plan on running till I graduate from college, the premise is that I am taking a bunch of cool home-brew stuff I found on both Dmsguild and DrivethurRPG as well as all the official stuff, and dividing up the content among different countries in order to give each country a different flavor. For one of the books I bought from DrivethurRPG is Journey to Ragnarok which has some cool Nordic flavor, and comes with a nice unique character sheet to with that setting.
I think it is very cool, and while this is purely cosmetic I kind of wanted to get a unique on theme character sheet for each country in this homebrew setting, and as I can find anything that is on theme to quite what I wanted I figured I would try my hand at making my own even if I am not terribly good at editing images on computers. However I can't find a version of the 5e character sheet that I can edit though paint? My computer does not wish to edit the pdf's outside of filling in the blanks.
you will need PDF editing software to make changes to character sheets. Adobe Acrobat is the defacto standard, but is fairly expensive to use for such a task.
You could also try searching on the internet for "alternatives to adobe acrobat" or use a free online service - search for "online Free PDF editor"
The latter option - the online pdf editor, should work ok for what you want.
Personally I use OpenOffice for making character sheets as you can make your own versions then export them as a PDF (not sure if you can make those form fill, but you can fill them out before conversion to PDF if need be).
It is a bit more work than simply making minor edits to an existing character sheet but lets you play with the layout as needed/wanted.
