Currently my favourites are hypnotic pattern, fear, slow, and stinking cloud. They all seem to perform a similar function though, so I think I only need one of these. Hypnotic pattern seems to be most thematically fitting.
For my second spell, I'm currently looking at sending, Leomond's tiny hut, major image, mass healing word or tongues. Major image or tongues are probably the most thematic. Not sure what would get the most use, though.
other characters in the party are a divination wizard, vengeance paladin and eldritch knight
I got a lot of mileage out of Hypnotic Pattern. Many of the save or suck spells have a periodic roll for the victim to break free; Hypnotic Pattern does not.
Thanks, both. I think Hypnotic pattern is locked in. Still struggling with my second choice (in fact it's got a bit tougher now that you've added enemies abound into the mix!)
I'd maybe consider Dispel Magic if no-one else in your party can take it (or you don't think those that can, will), it can be very handy against persistent magical effects; it could fit the theme as being the other end of a glamour, i.e- seeing through and undoing others magical effects?
It's a less direct combat spell, but if an enemy were, for example, to use Hypnotic Pattern on your party then it's good to have a way to end it.

Someone in your party needs the ability to cast Dispel Magic.
Tongues is great but it can wait.
Mass healing word heals exactly as much as standard Healing Word at a much higher cost, but the ability to heal multiple targets means that you can bring mutiple allies back into the fight and you still have your Action that turn--hope you don't need this.
Dispel Magic is useful in a number of situations. And out of the spells available, I like Enemies Abound much more than the others for a combat spell, but I am a chaos monkey soooooo...take this advice with a grain of salt. Is Hypnotic Pattern the safer choice? Yes. Does Enemies Abound potentially make your enemies fight each other thereby taking them out of at least one round of combat, garnering free damage, while being on the lowest percentage save in the game? Yes. Can it fail horribly? Totally, but it can also succeed quite wonderfully too. Get someone to slap Bane on them for you and you have an ally, sort of, for a few rounds.
The nice thing about Tiny Hut is that it's a ritual spell, and it's also something that you generally only cast when you're already in a pretty secure location anyway, so it lets you have a very solid security spell, but also opens you up to being able to cast Hypnotic Pattern more frequently, since it's your only 3rd level spell that actually requires you spend a spell slot on it.
So my half-elf glamour bard is approaching 5th level, and I'm looking for advice on what 3rd level spells to take
