I'm looking to play Maurice from the Steve Miller Band's The Joker. Since he's a space cowboy, he'll be a mounted Astral Elf. I'm thinking primarily Bard with a dip into Rogue for Arcane Trickster. I just don't know which Bard College. I'm looking at Eloquence or Lore, or maybe Glamour. Also not sure how much of a dip into Rogue. Lastly, best ideas for a mount for him? I think the best place to look is Spelljammer, but I never really got into that one, so I'm not sure if I'm missing something obvious. All help appreciated.
Being someone who plays a silver (war)hammer-wielding character named Maxwell, I approve of this.
I'm not necessarily be your best choice for optimizing, but I'll be glad to think through this with you. Personally, I like Eloquence or Glamour for this, but Lore may be too strong to ignore. You'll of course need to dip three levels in Rogue for Arcane Trickster; anything more than that, you'll miss out on 9th level spells if your campaign is going to level 20. If you go much beyond that in Rogue, it might be better to consider one of the more martial classes of Bard instead.
As far as a steed, I'm not sure. Perhaps at 10th level in Bard, take Find Greater Steed with Magical Secrets, get a griffon, and you can fly like an eagle?
