The surge of creativity from creating a new D&D character is at it again, and this time it's led me to a peculiar Bard / Cleric multiclass...specifically, the Tempest Cleric.
I was wracking my head on how best to create a "heavy metal" bard who provides more "blasting" potential, in addition to your typical bard support.
With just a two-level dip into Tempest Cleric, you gain some nifty benefits...armor proficiencies, martial weapons, and your standard cleric support spells...but also two really cool Tempest Domain abilities.
One is a lightning rebuke on your reaction...striking foes with lightning or thunder should they hit you...a nice deterrant for any fool who thinks hitting the bard is easy prey. You can do this a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier, so this feature is limited for a dominant-Bard.
But the real meat-&-potatoes is the Channel Divinity...on a short rest, the bard MAXIMIZES their thunder or lightning damage on a single spell. This means the bard has the capability to maximize a "Thunderwave" or "Shatter" spell. Pretty nice.
But let's go further...now, normally I like a Sword or Valor Bard, but dividing some Wisdom and Charisma with a martial stat is a bit difficult already, so let's try Lore Bard.
With those bonus Magical Secrets at Level 6, you can take "Lightning Bolt" and "Thunder Step"...now your power-sliding, lightning-riffing bard is an incredibly dangerous opponent every short rest, spell slots permitting.
You could have fun with the roleplaying, too...perhaps your bard is the herald or champion of a storm god, or some mighty god of magic. Maybe they see thunderstorms as vast symphonies they conduct like a maestro, or their deity speaking to them. Maybe they just like shocking things..."Magic Initiate" or "Spell Sniper" allows you to snag "Shocking Touch" or "Booming Blade".
What do y'all think? Is it a solid enough concept?
Greetings, my fellow bards.

I'd say add thaumatergy (sorry if I spelt it wrong), and thunder wave, for when you want to project your voice, and hit that foretesimo.
And maybe vicious mockery for when you want spit some nasty insults.
Ah, yes!
Very excited to have a bard with Thaumaturgy.
