So, I have recently created a homebrew subclass that I wanted to share with the public. However, it says that I can't publish it as it is "too similar to Circle of Spores." This is a Sorcerer subclass, which is not similar to Circle of Spores in any way. In addition, I have received this error message multiple times, on multiple subclasses that are in no way a copy of Circle of Spores. My question is, is this message some sort of placeholder for a different error? Or does it do something else? I'll post a copy of the subclass in comments below. In the meantime, has anyone else experienced this in a place where it's not applicable?
The souls of countless lives on inside you. You may contain the spirits of your ancestors, or perhaps an army of dead soldiers has somehow and for some reason chosen you to be it’s host. By harnessing this legion of ghosts, you gain access to powers beyond the comprehension of a single mind.
As a Spectral Legion sorcerer, you decide how you got your powers. Did a prophecy dictate that your ancestors' minds live on in yours, or are you the sole survivor of an army, with the souls of your comrades locked in your body? Consult the Legion’s Origins table for a possible origin of your power.
Legion’s Origin
d6
Origin
1
There was a prophecy in your family, that one among you would be chosen to carry the memories of your ancestors. You are that person.
2
You were the last child born during a great plague. Now, the souls of all those that perished live on in your magic, flitting around you in the form of black flies.
3
You are the sole survivor of a great raid, hiding from the invading army. Now you seek vengeance for the deaths of those killed in that raid.
4
You never knew who your parents were. You have a hunch though, because those ghosts that flick in and out of your vision look an awful lot like you.
5
Your fellow soldiers were wiped out at the hands of the enemy. Their voices have never left your ears, nor has the taste of blood left your mouth.
6
As a hired assassin, you became familiar with death. However, you didn’t expect the blood to stay on your hands this long, especially since your last kill was years ago.
Legion’s Spells
Starting at first level, you gain additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the legion’s spells table. Each of these spells counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but doesn’t count against the number of sorcerer spells you know.
Legion’s Spells
Sorcerer Level
Spell Name
1st
Bane, Cause Fear, Dissonant Whispers
3rd
Blur, Phantasmal Force
5th
Phantom Steed, Spirit Shroud
7th
Phantasmal Killer, Shadow of Moil
9th
Dominate Person, Negative Energy Flood
Spectral Soldiers
Starting at 1st level, you can release the souls from your body to fight at your side. As an action, you can create 2 spectral copies of yourself that remain for 1 minute. These copies have all of the same attributes as yourself, but they only have 1 HP, and their AC increases by your Charisma Modifier, with a minimum of 0. These copies take their turns immediately after yours and take attacks as directed by you. The copies can use cantrips, but can’t cast spells, and any damage that they deal is halved. You can use this ability once per long rest.
The number of copies you summon is increased by 1 at 6th, 14th, and 18th level.
Spectral Speech
At 6th level, your time spent with spirits grants you insight into the world of undeath. You can speak telepathically with any humanoid or undead creature that you can see. In addition, you have advantage when making Charisma (Deception, Intimidation, Performance, Persuasion) checks against undead creatures.
Eyes of the Legion
At 14th level, your legion of souls heightens your senses. You gain truesight out to a range of 30 ft. In addition, you cannot be frightened.
One with the Legion
At 18 level, your myriad of spirits grows ever continuously. When a humanoid or undead creature dies within 30 ft of you, you automatically create an additional Spectral Soldier, which remains for 1 minute.
