I was wondering if there was some sort of in depth guide to homebrewing Subclasses/spells?  I finished one up this morning and I had the worst time polishing it out.  There was a lot of features that had the question mark box to give tips but its not "Barney Style" enough to someone like me.

Try the Homebrew & House Rules forum, there are a bunch of tutorials/guides pinned at the top.  And if you get stuck someone will probably be able to help if you post questions there.
