Pretty much what the title says, really really like the website and would like to play a campaign this thursday with some friends, but getting money for the books is not the easiest feat where I live. I was wondering if I'd get the current player's handbook by pre-ordering the 2024 one. Doesn't feel worth it for me to buy it now just for it to be obsolete in a couple of months.
The basic rules and builder are accessible and free even without the current or future Players Handbook. My advice to you would be to talk to your friends. If one or more of them are using the service and have a subscription that allows content sharing, and your DM has a campaign here, then ask for the campaign join link. You can build a character with all the features of anyone's content that is in a content-sharing-enabled campaign. Then you can buy whichever Players Handbook you need at another time.
They are not going to give you an old handbook with the new that doesn't make sense, but just because a new one is coming out doesn't make the old one obsolete or unusable. You can still play the game with the older books it is just what you prefer to use. Ultimately the choice is up to you if you want to get the old one or the new one.

Hello!

You don't.
The old one is extremely likely to remain usable after the transition, though they haven't definitely said so, or how it'll work, or anything.
