Scenario: A Character is a lvl 3 Rogue/Arcane Trickster and a lvl 5 Wizard (any).
Now when I increase the Rogue/Arcane Trickster Level to 4 and want to make a choice on the additional spell known, the spell selection still displays only level 0 and 1 spells, although I should be able to select level 2 and 3 spells as well (since I got spell slots up to level 3 due to the wizard levels and the combined spell-caster level as of the multi-classing table).
That's very unfortunate since it breaks character progression in terms of spell management on the digital character sheet.
Add: Same goes for the other way around: If I increase the Wizards level to 6, I still can only choose spells from 0 to 3rd level, although my combined spell caster level should be 7 thus I should be able to pick level 4 spells as well.
So i guess the whole multi classing spell caster level calculation for the spell selection doesn't work.
Interesting enough: It does the correct calculation on the spell slots on the character sheet though.
Spells Known and Prepared. You determine what spells you know and can prepare for each class individually, as if you were a single-classed member of that class.
From what you have described, the D&D Beyond character sheet/builder seems to be following this correctly - a 4th level Arcane Trickster only has access to cantrips and level 1 spells to select for their known spells.
Multiclassing spell progression is slots only; preparation is done individually.

I'm not talking preparation, but gaining access to new spells, whether it's through additional "Spells Known" or adding the two additional spells per level to the wizards spellbook. In both cases, it states that it's restricted to spells you have spell slots for. In the given cases, I have spell slots for higher levels than the "Add Spell" menu in the "Edit Character" section shows me.

As far as I am aware, the spell slots you have from multiclassing has no bearing on this. This does mean that multi-class characters can sometimes reach a situation where they unlock spell slots of a level that they don't know any spells for. They can still use these slots though to "upcast" spells of a lower level.
Here's the example from the multiclass spellcasting rules:
If you are a ranger 4/wizard 3, for example, you know three 1st-level ranger spells based on your levels in the ranger class. As 3rd-level wizard, you know three wizard cantrips, and your spellbook contains ten wizard spells, two of which (the two you gained when you reached 3rd level as a wizard) can be 2nd-level spells. If your Intelligence is 16, you can prepare six wizard spells from your spellbook.
Uhm, ok, that kinda contradicts whats being said on the classes themselves, but well...guess the multiclass rules are more specific thus they override the class rules. If that's so, then yes...everything is working correctly.

Hi there Tiaslin,
the rules on multiclass spellcasting state:
From what you have described, the D&D Beyond character sheet/builder seems to be following this correctly - a 4th level Arcane Trickster only has access to cantrips and level 1 spells to select for their known spells.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
No problem. :)
Some of the rules, especially those on spellcasting, can be a bit hard to figure out how to apply.
