I'm afraid that one is a bit trickier - we don't currently have the ability to change the base damage of the weapon.
However, there are two different ways you can achieve similar results:
Select the base item as a Great Axe instead (you can say in the description that it is a sword), which does damage of 1d12, then give the item a property of additional slashing damage of +1d12.
Leave the sword as 2d6 and then on your character sheet, create a custom attack (in the attacks section of the character sheet) which allows you to specify the number and type of dice.
I'm afraid it's not ideal, but these are the best ways we have of doing this currently. I'd probably go with option 2.
Hello,
So my DM today gave out amazing custom items to fit each character. I was given a Greatsword +2 the gives a few properties:
- Gives Alert feat
- Does 2d12 instead
(don't worry if i ever use it in combat i lose all these properties, I'm only allowed to use it as a means of executing prisoners)
I'm trying to create this item in the homebrew section but I can't seem to get it to give me the Alert Feat and I'm wondering if I could get help.
Hi there Noliquin,
sounds like a nice item!
Rather than trying to add the alert feat to the item, the approach is to add the same properties to the sword that the feat has.

You sir are a god! Thank you so much! took you 5 mins to troubleshoot a problem I was working on for over an hour!
Worked like a charm!
Now my next issue how can I change the base damage of a greatsword to 2d12 from 2d6?

How would I do this? What do you mean by "the sword that the feat has"? Does the Alert feat have a sword or something? I am relatively new to D&D
