I noticed this problem when I created a homebrew bow that should grant +1 to attacks (not damage). When added to the character it doesn't add to +1 ...or does it? It appears their regular bow adds a +1 from somewhere. They both appear to have +1? I add a regular +1 bow to the character and it grants +2... so it's definitely adding an additional +1 from somewhere and NOT adding the homebrew +1 (Dex player with bow has +4 from dex and +2 from proficiency = +6, I can't find any other bonus on their sheet but DDB is giving them a +7.)
So, where is the additional +1 for the regular bow coming from and why isn't it adding the +1 from the homebrew item?
When editing the magic bow I tried selecting "Bonus - Ranged Weapon Attacks" and "Bonus - Ranged Attacks" both appear to do nothing. Should I be selecting a different bonus in the editor?
??? am I missing something?
Additional info that may help. The character is a Mark of Healing Halfling Ranger Swarmkeeper. Fighting Style: Thrown Weapon Fighting (the item in question is a bow) Chosen Feat: Speedy (shouldn't add to the equation) Background: Outlander with Wanderer feature (shouldn't add to the equation)
Interesting... it does appear to add the bonus to the ordinary bow when the magic one is equipped. I also tried adding the regular +1 bow... which turns into a +2 when the homebrew bow is equipped.
How do I fix it? Clearly selecting "Bonus - Ranged Weapon Attacks" or "Bonus - Ranged Attacks" adds the bonus to all Ranged Weapon Attacks or Ranged Attacks not just that weapon's. What setting should I be using in the editor to give my homebrew bow a +1 to attack and not damage?
Most magic weapons give the +1 to both the attack and damage rolls. Those are done by adding a Modifier with:
- Type: Bonus - Subtype: Magic - Fixed Value: 1
If you can find an existing magic weapon that adds it only to the attack roll (and not damage), then you can make a homebrew copy of it to peek inside and see how they did it.
Or if you want to take the lazy approach, you could just click the weapon on your character sheet, open the Customize menu in the sidebar, and manually add the bonus to the attack roll.
Ah... so basically there isn't an option for that in the editor. That's too bad. ...but as you said, I could always just Customize the item from the character sheet. Thanks for the help!

Do the other bows show that bonus even when your homebrew one is unequipped?
Note that homebrew edits can take up to 15 minutes to appear on the sheet, too, which is why those other modifiers may have appeared not to work.
