I have Monsters of the Multiverse in my library, but I can’t get my character creator to give me the option of making a Tabaxi character. Is there a way to make it show as an option? I tried allowing all sources, but that didn’t work. I tried to add it as a homebrew species, but as it is a 5e species, the program won’t allow it. Please help, I want my next character to be a Tabaxi, but I need to have it on dnd beyond, or else I’d just build it on paper.
And see if it says your entitlements are out of sync. If so there should be a button there to manually sync them.
All content on D&D Beyond is for 5e and all species (both homebrew and official) should work with any character.
So the problem seems to be that the book was shared with me. But then I can’t understand why I can’t homebrew it instead?
If you mean why you can't choose it as a base to copy and homebrew from, that can only come from content you personally own. Nothing shared with you will show up in the list to create from.
Can you elaborate on what specific problem you’re having with homebrewing it? That should definitely be possible.
When I attempt to create the character from my homebrew Tabaxi (taking all of the species traits from MOTM), it gives me two reasons why I can’t move forward. 1.) it says that the species has text that is not in English. Tabaxi is the only non-English word. 2.) It’s says that the name is too similar to licensed 5e content.
Do I just name it something other than a Tabaxi? If it’s that simple, I’ll try that.

Do you mean because I am choosing all of the Tabaxi information (and the specie name)? If so, as I answered above, perhaps I just have to change it a bit? Maybe?
The errors that appear when creating a homebrew species have nothing to do with creating a character. You should be able to use it for a character despite those errors.
To expand on what spamandtuna said: those errors are telling you that you can't publish it like that. Publishing it makes it available for other people to use. You don't need to publish it to use it yourself, or for people who are in a campaign with you to use it. You just need to save it. Then it will should up in the character builder as long as the "Homebrew" box is checked on the Home tab.

If the book is shared with you, shared character options can only be used inside the campaign that’s sharing them.

Aha, that would be the problem. This book has been shared with me.
