I noticed the disappearance of the option to get a Desktop View on mobile devices from the dropdown menu. I was curious if this was an oversight or was this an intentional removal? If it was simply an oversight is this something that could possibly be easily put back up? Having no access to the formatting toolbar while on a mobile device is slightly frustrating. I very much liked having the ability to utilize it via the Desktop Site on my phone. If it was an intentional removal, would you be willing to provide an explanation for curiosity sake? I appreciate your time.
In regards to your first point... I just wow... I cannot believe I didn’t think to try that. Thank you for pointing that very cool function out to me! Worked like a charm. Lol
As to the second point, I do have the option available, but it doesn’t seem to be functioning at all when I make that selection. I have tried both Chrome and Safari to no avail.
I believe that the site renders differently based upon the size of the rendered screen (not on whether it's a mobile client) which is why setting "request desktop site" doesn't do what you're expecting.
You can test this yourself on your PC by reducing the width of the window and you'll see that the formatting icons disappear when the window gets too narrow.
This is also why turning the device through 90 degrees works. :)

I have found that rotating the screen allows the editing functions to appear.
Your browser should also have a setting to request the desktop version of the site.
