The last paragraph of the daylight spell description says:
If any of this spell's area overlaps with an area of darkness created by a spell of 3rd level or lower, the spell that created the darkness is dispelled.
However, in the PHB, the word "darkness" is not italicized, which means that it's not meant to refer to the darkness spell specifically. The phrasing also suggests that it's mean to refer to any spell that creates "darkness", not just the darkness spell alone.
Compare the corresponding portion of the darkness spell, which correctly says:
If any of this spell's area overlaps with an area of light created by a spell of 2nd level or lower, the spell that created the light is dispelled.
