I finished making my first character and when I went to "equipment" section on the character sheet,and the items where not there. I tried adding the starting items through the sheet but I got this error:

Thank you for copying in the error you received. Have you attempted to add the items to your character since receiving this error, while editing your character sheet?

are you using a homebrew background for this character?
That is the usual cause of such errors - a homebrew background where the author has not fully added equipment to the background.

I am using an official background (noble) and I discovered this problem when I was editing through the character sheet.
Update: I tried again today and it worked properly.
