Armor Proficiency. Anyone can put on a suit of armor or strap a shield to an arm. Only those proficient in the armor's use know how to wear it effectively, however. Your class gives you proficiency with certain types of armor. If you wear armor that you lack proficiency with, you have disadvantage on any ability check, saving throw, or attack roll that involves Strength or Dexterity, and you can't cast spells.
So, on the DDB character sheet, I can add a chain shirt or a shield and check the box for "Equip" and I get ZERO warnings that I am not proficient nor do my saving throws adjust to show disadvantage, nor does my spell book adjust to show that I can't cast spells. I would think that the DDB character sheet would show this.
Here is my test character to show how this doesn't work.
When you go to the equipment manager, there is a checkbox for "proficient" that filters the items displayed to only show equipment that your character is proficient with.
With regards to the consequences of equipping armor that the character isn't proficient with, that's something that I hope will be added to the character sheet!
The ability to filter the Manage Equipment is nice. For new players (new to DnD and/or DDB) a warning, or at least adjust in stats, would be nice. I too hope this gets added in the future.
