I’m an old timer that is just returning to D&D after a long time away and am very excited to be starting up again! I’m going to be playing a Scourge Aasimar Hexblade starting at level 2 but am very confused by the seemingly contradictory information about what spells are available to me.
I’ve seen lists online that have completely different entries to each other and most confusingly, according to the character generator on Beyond, Hex is not a spell available to me; my gaming group are adamant that it should be. Is this a bug?
Im aware that some content doesn’t appear in Beyond until you’ve bought it but as Hex is a PHB spell...it would be great if there is a definitive spell list out there?
As a Hexblade, you have the Hexblade's Curse as a class ability and you also have Hex. The class ability you always have, but you have to choose the spell.
I have just bought a physical copy of the PHB. Is there a way I can prove ownership to access digital spells? I’d like to use Beyond but not going to buy spells that I have access to in the book

You can use the homebrew tools to recreate any spells from the physical book for free. Just remember not to publish copyrighted content (you can use your unpublished homebrews privately).

Hi all!

Thanks in advance!
The spell lists on D&D Beyond have filters that allow you to just display spells available to warlocks.

Hey Tim,
Thanks for the reply - the issue that I’m having is that Hex (the spell) doesn’t appear in my spell list. So this is a bug?
The spell Hex is found in the Player's Handbook, so you'll need to have access to content from that source, or have purchased the spell separately.

Did you purchase the Player's Handbook here on D&D Beyond?
No, just the hard copy. So why do I get access to some spells free and others not?
Thank you!

You see the free basic rules only and no you can't do that. Read this thread. https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/general-discussion/13989-a-buyers-guide-for-dnd-beyond
Thank you!
