I've been working on trying to get the details for a homebrew race with subraces finished but I'm running into some weird errors. It's not letting me use any spells from the Sword Adventurers Coast Guide (specifically Lightning Lure), even though I own the content and I can add any other spell from the official books. I'm also getting flagged on one of my subraces because I used the world Cerulean for using a non-english word.
This is obnoxious. It's already a pain to format everything because there is no way to preview or fine tune the formatting outside of possibly hand coding. I'm using content I'm allowed to use and using an english word which is a shade of blue but I have to change everything just to let my players see the race.
Edit: Additionally, why are all the subraces not falling under the main race? I have no option to add them to the race group of the race I've made. The subraces are registered as subraces and show up with the correct parent race, but it spreads them all over the character builder instead of grouping them under the main race.
I'm aware of this. That is not the issue I'm having. I want to know why I'm using official content and it's flagging it as an error and why an English word is flagged as non- English. I also want to know why my subraces aren't grouping with the parent race in the character builder.
Edit: Apologize for the multiple edits... I'm aware the errors are to keep it from being shared to the community. I'm aware that this doesn't have to happen in order for my players to see the content. I WANT to be able to do both.
Feedback: I personally abhor giving feedback and bug reports on forums and I'm still waiting to be able to make a fully custom class.
I love using this platform and have single-handed convinced others to use this platform for their game hosting. While not impossible, first learning to use your custom creation system isn't clear and there is no way to manually adjust formatting (i.e. line spacing).
Once a Parent race has been shared, if you attempt to make a new version of it, it doesn't carry the sub-race with it. Meaning that if I wanted to change something in the main race, I would have to re-enter all of the subraces again regardless if I did or didn't change anything in them. In this case, there are 7 I would need to re-enter. While not difficult, this is very inconvenient and can turn a 5 minute edit to a half hour or more depending.
homebrew subraces in character builder - When the character builder screen was created, there were only around a dozen races to be selected from and it was implemented with a "hidden" grouping method. The D&D Beyond team agree that this isn't ideal when developing comprehensive homebrew. This is an artefact of a decision from the community, earlier on in the life of D&D Beyond - did they want homebrew as soon as possible, but there would be limitations, or did they want to wait until it was all fully developed with a nice UI and polished first. Unfortunately this means that there are some areas that, in hindsight, aren't as great as they could be. Homebrew subraces aren't grouped under their parent race is one of those. Fortunately though, this will be resolved as the team are planning to overhaul the homebrew system and improve it.
Using official content in homebrew - as above, if the purpose of your homebrew is to share with your players in a campaign, then this doesn't matter. For publishing though, it is different. The reason that you may not include paid content in your published homebrew is that other users may not have that paid content and therefore your homebrew wouldn't work properly for them. The likely solution in the future is along the lines of allowing such homebrew to be published, but showing on the page what purchased content is needed for the homebrew to function correctly.
Cerulean - this one I don't know, but it surprises me. There is published homebrew content with fictional names and places. I'll ask the product team what the process is when we discover words that are flagged as not English incorrectly. Can you let me know where the word Cerulean was used? In the homebrew name maybe?
Updating homebrew parent races - this is a known issue. I expect that this will be resolved in the homebrew updates, as per above.

On this one, I remember a post a few months ago where someone saw strange words flagged as wrong, but in the end it was that the description for the subclass was empty or only had "word" in it.
Might be worthwhile, EmeraldSiren, to ensure that your homebrew has a full description, and then save it (which makes the system re-check it)

You don't need to publish homebrew to use it in campaigns. Your players can already see it and use it if you are in a campaign together.

Is this by design or is this not working as intended?
I'll try to address all of that for you!
I hope that answers questions and helps!
