I am trying to homebrew a "Ring of the bull". It is simple , 20 temp HP and +1 bonus to STR and CON ability checks. However, every time I create what I think will work, it gives +11 to all ability checks.
So here is what I have done:
On the "Add modifier" section,
Modifier type-bonus
Modifier subtype- ability checks
Ability score-STR
Fixed Value-1
I just can't seem to figure out what I am doing wrong. Any one have an idea?
The "Ability Score" I believe would be adding that ability score to all checks.
I believe your best way to do this is going to be adding a modifier for a bonus to Athletics ability checks (as that is the only specific STR or CON ability) with a bonus of 1, you don't need to set an ability.
What is happening is the modifier you have added works a little differently to how you are expecting.
Bonus -> Ability Checks. This modifier adds a bonus to ALL ability checks. You have then defined the amount of bonus to be equal to the STR bonus +1. There's then a second modifier granting a bonus to all ability checks of CON bonus +1.
The modifiers you need are Bonus -> Strength Ability Checks, with a value of 1. Then the same for Constitution Ability Checks.
I've updated your item for you to reflect this.
Have fun with your item - looks like a nice magic item!

Can you provide a link to the homebrew item here please?
You don't need to publish it - moderators can view it from the url.

Thanks, y'all. That was really bugging me. Will the HP automatically reflect on a character as well?
