I have a race that gains proficiency in a skill of choice and expertise in that skill, but because it’s not predefined, I don’t know how to set the expertise to alway match which ever skill is chosen without having to rely on the honor system with any potential players.
I was hoping to link the subrace’s expertise to the parent race’s profieciency, but this can work as a variant race that replaces the proficiency with twice proficiency.

Use the modifier "Twice Proficiency" - this grants proficiency and expertise at the same time.

Update: The “twice proficiency” doesn’t have a “choose a skill” option, so that’s a no-go.
