You all might need to do some pruning from your spell lists. I doubt I'm the only one who has reported this, but I'll go ahead just incase. I've noticed there are a lot of duplicate spells mostly due to small name changes. For example the 2nd level arcane spells Melf's Acid Arrow, there is also an entry called Acid Arrow. They are both the same spell and the proper name is Melf's Acid Arrow, so the other entry needs to be deleted. This happens for many other spells in the spell list that mostly come from the PHB, others I've noticed are listed as follows:
Bigby's Hand & Arcane Hand Evard's Black Tentacles & Black Tentacles Leomund's Tiny Hut & Tiny Hut Leomund's Secret Chest & Secret Chest Mordenkainen's Faithful Hound Mordenkainen's Private Sanctum Otiluke's Resilient Sphere & Resilient Sphere Rary's Telepathic Bond & Telepathic Bond
I have a feeling that there are plenty more, but I've only been through up to 5th level arcane spells.
This is because the names like Leomund, Modenkainen, etc. Are WOTC IP and thus aren’t a part of the SRD (Systems Refence Document) that WOTC made available tor third parties wanting to use the OGL licensing option. Instead, WOTC renamed the “names” spells they wanted to include in the SRD. Here on DDB, the SRD is considered to be part of the Basic Rules and is available for free to everyone. So deleting them is not an option. What would be helpful, however, would be to add an “exclusion filter” so that those of use with the PHB version of these spells could screen out the SRD versions. .
Thank you, I wasn't aware of that situation with the SRD and Copyright Laws. Yes, an exclusion filter would be an excellent fix for that issue. Great Idea. Hopefully something like that will be implemented in the future.
It is mostly a non-issue. There is only one instance (that I know of) where one of these spells is forced to be learned twice and it doesn't reduce the number of spells you can prepare even in that case.
